Battle Of The Books

On Thursday, May 23, 29 teams of 4th, 5th and 6th grade students will participate in the annual Battle of the Books! These teams read 9 novels over the past two months and will be answering trivia questions based on the books. The winning team members will each get to pick a new book to add to the Willett Library!

Early Childhood Education (ECE) requisite facilities at Willett Elementary

On April 29, 2024, DJUSD presented final placement proposals for Early Childhood Education (ECE) requisite facilities at Willett Elementary. Your feedback was instrumental in informing our decision to move forward with ECE facility construction at Willett Elementary. Plans have been submitted to the Division of State Architect (DSA) for approval and we are hoping to break ground in summer 2024!

If you missed outreach, please visit our website to see site renderings and floor plans for the proposed ECE facilities at your school! Any additional questions, concerns or feedback can be directed to [email protected]. We are always happy to hear from you!

Thank you for your time, patience and participation with this project. We are excited to bring these much needed facilities to our community

Charge Those Chromebooks

As we get deeper into the testing season, students are using their Chromebooks more and more. We have been seeing students not able to test due to Chromebook batteries being depleted when they get to school. Please help us out and have your students plug in their Chromebooks before going to bed each night so that there is battery life available to complete online assessments the following day. Thank you

Public Outreach for Strategic Fencing at Willett Elementary

As part of the Bond Program funding from Measure M, the Davis Board of Education has prioritized a total of $3 million for fencing projects across DJUSD school sites. The goal of these projects is to improve safety and access control, by deterring pedestrian traffic across school grounds during school hours and limiting the number of entry points to campus.

Implementation of fencing projects will occur in phases with the first phase beginning at Davis Senior High School, North Davis Elementary and Willett Elementary. DJUSD presented initial proposals for fencing projects at each of the three sites in December 2023. Staff and community feedback have been valuable in revising project plans, and we invite you to attend another outreach opportunity to review and discuss the proposed fencing at Willett Elementary School. Students, families, staff, neighbors and friends are all invited!

i-Ready And CAASPP Testing

As we move into May, i-Ready diagnostic testing and CAASPP state testing will be administered. The best ways you can support your students during testing includes the following:

  1. Set a bedtime to ensure your child has enough rest to come in with a strong mind.

  2. Monitor online time to ensure that digital burnout does not affect testing.

  3. A balanced breakfast each morning keeps energy levels up. Students can also take advantage of our second breakfast at first recess.

  4. Positive reinforcement works wonders in keeping testing anxiety down and positive self-esteem at a high.

Bike Rodeo

The Willett Active4.me scanning program and the City of Davis wants your help to empower students in grades K-6th with the tools they need to ride their bikes to school confidently. We are seeking volunteers who like working with kids and want to help kids learn the rules of the road and how to ride their bike in traffic.

Bike Rodeos are a great way to help kids. They are designed to be fun, interactive, and non-competitive. Help kids with learning their hand signals, helmet fitting, ABC quick check, stopping at Stop Signs and more.

When:  1:30 – 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22

Where: Willett Blacktop.

Who: You! No special skills needed to volunteer! Please contact Jenny Cooper [email protected] if you can help us make this a great event for our students.
