Coffee with the Principal

Please join me for our monthly Coffee with the Principal on Friday, November 3 at 8:30 a.m. in the MPR. I’ll be there to provide updates and answer questions. Our front office admin secretary Heather Richter will also stop by to answer questions about our school budgets. Coffee is provided by the PTA! This is a great opportunity for new families or families who want to know more about Willett to get the small group experience with me and the PTA. Please consider joining us for an informative conversation.

Thank You

A huge thank you goes out to all the families who came together to support our TK/K pumpkin patch today. It was great to see the children enjoying the activity and for the parents to be there to enjoy it also!

Art Starting Soon

It is with great enthusiasm that I announce that Judy Catambay will begin teaching Art classes to our TK-6th grade classes.  Teachers will be signing up for sessions for Judy to lead and we should see classes start as early as next week. Thank you Judy for bringing art to our students.

2nd/3rd Grade Music Starting In November

Starting in November, Paul Engle will begin teaching music lessons to our 2nd and 3rd grade classes. We are developing the schedule now and are so excited for this opportunity for our 2nd and 3rd graders. Stay tuned (pun intended)!

I am replaying the following messages due to their importance and due dates.

Design planning is now under way for solar implementation at Willett Elementary School. The installation of photovoltaic solar panels is a key step in our effort to expand renewable energy sources in DJUSD and at your neighborhood school site.

Please join the DJUSD Bond Team on Monday, November 13, for two meeting opportunities to hear about these changes and share any input or thoughts you may have about this solar project. Families, staff, neighbors and friends are all invited.

Is Your Student Missing School Due to Anxiety?

Sometimes, not wanting to attend school on a regular basis can be a sign that something else is going on with your student. If your student reports symptoms such as headaches or stomach aches, this may be a sign of anxiety, rather than physical illness. If the issue is anxiety, staying home from school can make things worse. Learn more about how you can help your student’s anxiety and attendance by visiting the District’s attendance website

Halloween Costume Guidelines

I am sure that many of you have been wondering about dressing up for Halloween this year. If your child wishes to wear a costume to school on Halloween, please pay special attention to:

  1. Costume must not interfere with learning or movement.
  2. No fake or plastic weapons of any kind.
  3. No inappropriate costumes that would violate dress code (curse words, drug/alcohol references, etc.)
  4. Accessories need to stay at home.
  5. Costume related masks are not to be worn.
  6. The school is not responsible for lost costumes or costume related items.

If you have specific questions, please let me know.
