Open House

As I walked from classroom-to-classroom last night, I was amazed at the student work, the warm conversations between parents and teachers, and the excitement students had showing off their growth. I could feel the energy in the air and it was a true community feeling. Our staff works so hard to provide an environment that is inclusive, inviting, and supportive of all students. Parents should be very proud of their children and how they make Willett a wonderful school to be at. Thank you to students, staff, and families for making Willett the best school in Davis!!

Tuesday Try-Its Club

“Tuesday Try-Its Club” starts this Tuesday, April 16th. It is a club for all first and second graders and will take place every Tuesday during lunch recess. There will be weekly “Try-Its” centered on art, games, and unique opportunities for first and second graders to participate in if they so choose. Teachers will let their classrooms know ahead of time what the new weekly club offering will be. Students do not need to sign up for the club. They will simply choose weekly whether they want to take part in the activity or activities. If they choose to go, they come to the stage area in the MPR after being excused from their lunch table. The activity for the initial club day is a game called “Escargot.” First and second graders were jokingly told they would be chasing snails as the game. It is a hopping game.

ECE facilities at Willett

On April 8, 2024, DJUSD will present a placement proposal for Early Childhood Education (ECE) requisite facilities at Willett Elementary. Public feedback is instrumental in informing our decisions. To finalize site plans for ECE facility construction at your neighborhood school, we invite you to attend an additional public outreach opportunity.

The DJUSD Bond Team welcomes families, staff, neighbors and friends for two meeting opportunities on Monday, April 29, to learn about potential revisions and provide feedback on this important project.

Dress Code

With the weather warming up, I have included the DJUSD dress code for parents to review. We are starting to address dress code concerns and want parents to be aware of the district policy as it pertains to dress.

DJUSD recognizes that the responsibility for the dress and grooming of a student rest primarily with students and their parent guardians.

The District’s goal is to promote student safety and to create a respectful community that is welcoming to all students.  The District Dress Code policy applies to all schools in the district.

Allowable Dress and Grooming:

  • Students must wear clothing which includes a shirt with pants, skirt, dress, or the equivalent.

  • Shirts and dresses must have fabric in the front and on the sides.

  • Clothing must cover undergarments; however, waistbands and bra straps may show.

  • Fabric covering all private parts must not be transparent.

  • Footwear must be worn at all times and must not limit student participation in school activities.

  • Hats and other headwear must allow the face to be visible and not interfere with the line of sight to any student or staff (hoodies must allow the student’s face and ears to be visible to staff).

  • Clothing must be suitable for all scheduled classroom activities including physical education (PE), science labs, wood shop, and other activities where unique hazards exist.

  • Specialized courses may require specialized attire, such as sports uniforms or safety gear.

Non-Allowable Dress and Grooming:

  • Clothing may not depict, advertise, or advocate the use of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, or other controlled substances.

  • Clothing may not depict violence, obscenities, pornography, nudity, or sexual acts.

  • Clothing may not use or depict hate speech targeting groups based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious affiliation, or any other protected groups.

  • Clothing must not threaten the health or safety of any other student or staff member.

Generally, students who do not follow the dress code will be referred to the school office to correct the issue, which may include changing into PE clothes, wearing a t-shirt provided by the school, or being sent home to change.  Every effort will be made by school staff to avoid embarrassing or shaming the student.  All corrective actions will be reported to the parent/guardian.

Willett Family Science Night with Explorit!

Science Night is this coming Wednesday, April 17, 5:30-7:00 p.m. in the Willett MPR! Families can learn together via interactive, hands-on stations that cover topics from geology, biology, engineering, and more! Stop in when you can! Read more info and sign up to help out HERE. If you have questions about this event or would like to contribute in other ways to science night, please email [email protected]. Thanks!

Bike Rodeo

The City of Davis Police are hosting a bike rodeo at our school as part of our school’s bicycle skills program. With the help of volunteers, they will be conducting a Bike Rodeo on May 22nd. The bike rodeo is a simple and fun activity to teach your child important bicycle safety skills. The event consists of a number of stations that allow your child to learn and practice proper bicycling skills. In order for your child to participate, the following is required:

  • You must review, sign, and return the release form which will be sent home with students in the coming weeks.

  • Children must bring their own bike, wear a bicycle helmet and shoes that fasten, no flip-flops allowed.

Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity!
