Emergency Communication Test Next Week

Each year, DJUSD performs a test of the Emergency Communication System. The school district will send out a TEST of our Emergency Communication System to the phone numbers, emails and mobile numbers (via text) for parent/guardian contacts for each of our students. The purpose of that “Test Message” is to ensure our parent community understands how, and in what form, they will receive messages in the event of a real emergency and to identify potential gaps in emergency data that can then be addressed in advance of a possible urgent event.

Opt in to Text Messages for Text Messaging from DJUSD

If you are new to our school or the school district, or you haven’t already opted in to receive District text alerts, please consider doing so by texting Y or Yes 67587 from a mobile phone number on record with your student information (on record with our office/included in your online re-enrollment). Learn more about District Emergency Text Alerts and Text Messaging at http://www.djusd.net/txtmsg

Save the DJUSD Auto-Call System Number to Your Favorites

As a reminder, all important automated school communications and emergency alerts sent through our SchoolMessenger system will be sent from the number 1-877-539-7855.  If you call this number back, you are able to access any recent messages sent to you.

We encourage you to save this number in your Contacts or Caller ID as DJUSD Info/Alert. By doing this, you will recognize a DJUSD emergency alert or important message being sent to your phone from our school or school district.

If you have any questions, please contact our office, or reach out directly to the DJUSD Public Information Office at [email protected].

Willett Enjoys Reading

The library has checked out a whopping 1,876 books so far this school year!! It is wonderful to see students enjoying books and building a love for reading. A huge thank you goes out to our library staff  and classroom teachers for making this happen!

Chorus Is Huge!

So far, we have had over 100 students attend chorus this week. This is amazing. What a great opportunity for students and a great turnout for a school activity. Nice job Ms. Lindsay!

No Parent Parking On Campus

Please park on the street and walk your students to and from campus. Just this week we have had several close calls in the front parking lot due to families driving through the lot and/or not using the access at the North and South ends of the parking lot. PLease keep our students safe by using the two access areas and not parking/driving through the lot.

Playground Aide Parent Volunteers Needed

Parents, do you have free time at lunchtime? Do you like to get a midday walk in and watch students have fun and play? I have just the volunteer job for you! Willett is in need of volunteers for playground aides at lunch. The time would be from 11:45-1:00 on sunny days and 11:30-1:00 on rainy/inclement weather days. If you are interested in supporting the school with midday supervision, please let me know and we can discuss the details.

Safety Week Is Coming The Week Of September 18th

Willett students and staff practice safety week twice a year by performing various drills to prepare us for many scenarios. We typically begin the week practicing a fire/evacuation drill. We move on to shelter in place/lockdown drills that take place in the classroom. Towards the end of the week we move on to the earthquake and teacher down drills which can happen in the classroom or out on the playground. These drills are great practice for students and staff alike and prepare us for emergencies that may arise during the school year. We hope these drills do not alarm students and we will run through the drills in a manner that allows us to be prepared if we should ever need to use them. Thank you for supporting us in keeping our students safe!

Pictures Day Is Coming In October

This year, picture day will take place on October 2nd. Picture day information, online ordering, and the customer advocate team are all available at mydorian.com. Search for Robert E. Willett Elementary, and click on the green order button or yellow help button associated with our picture day. You can order online now and for up to four days after picture day.

Here are some helpful tips to make picture day great!

  • Schedule haircuts 7-10 days prior to picture day.
  • Wear simple clothing. Solid shirts or small patterns, along with sleeves, photograph best.

A simple collared shirt is a timeless classic.

  • Avoid logos and text on clothing. Graphics or wording may not photograph completely and can become partially cropped out of your picture.
