Missing Parent Message

Forgive me for not sending my Friday message last week. I was out ill and just returned today.

Martin Luther King

Students and staff have observed Martin Luther King this week in many ways. Dr. King’s life, his experiences, and his words were shared and studied to provide our students with a broader perspective of his work. Examples of study this week included:

  • Biographies on Dr. King in video and book form based on the civil rights movement
  • Study of non-violent resistance with emphasis on how Dr. King's influence has changed American society.
  • Art design celebrating Dr. King
  • A guest speaker addressing how his life was affected while growing up in Birmingham, Alabama and the influence Dr. King had on his family.
  • Analysis of Dr. King’s speech “What Is Your Life’s Blueprint” with students developing their own version of Dr. Kings work.
  • Analysis of Dr. King's speech “I Have A Dream”

These are just some of the ways that Dr. King's legacy was honored and how he will continue to have an impact on our world. Thank you Dr. King.

Spelling Bee

A huge Thank You goes out to all the staff and students who participated in the Willett Spelling Bee. All of the students who competed were brave, professional, and their expertise was a joy to witness. All spellers made it through the first three rounds of spelling and it took 10 rounds to determine the champion speller. Here are the results:

1st place         Lucas Lerche (this qualifies Lucas for the upcoming Sacramento regional competition)

2nd place        Peter Ngo

3rd place         Elena Popescu

4th place tie     Saina Khan, Landon Cohen, Setayesh Kiumarsi, Liv Gill

5th place tie     Sabrina Slatten, Estelle Justus

Congratulations to our successful spellers! You all did a great job!

Pickup And Drop Off Reminder

Attention parents, please remember that the front parking lot is for staff use only before school, during school, and after school. Parents need to park off site and walk their students on campus. There have also been some families who are entering the parking lot in their cars from the exit. This poses a danger to all who are leaving the lot and to others who may be walking their students out near that exit. For student safety, please walk students on to campus and do not use the parking lot to drop off or pick up students.

Student Drop Off On Rainy Days

Student arrival on rainy days can become problematic in keeping students out of the rain. To support us, please drop students off for school as close to 8:25 as possible to cut down on students collecting/playing in the rain. We really appreciate it!
