Dress Code

With the weather warming up, I have included the DJUSD dress code for parents to review. We are starting to address dress code concerns and want parents to be aware of the district policy as it pertains to dress.

DJUSD recognizes that the responsibility for the dress and grooming of a student rest primarily with students and their parent guardians.

The District’s goal is to promote student safety and to create a respectful community that is welcoming to all students.  The District Dress Code policy applies to all schools in the district.

Allowable Dress and Grooming:

  • Students must wear clothing which includes a shirt with pants, skirt, dress, or the equivalent.
  • Shirts and dresses must have fabric in the front and on the sides.
  • Clothing must cover undergarments; however, waistbands and bra straps may show.
  • Fabric covering all private parts must not be transparent.
  • Footwear must be worn at all times and must not limit student participation in school activities.
  • Hats and other headwear must allow the face to be visible and not interfere with the line of sight to any student or staff (hoodies must allow the student’s face and ears to be visible to staff).
  • Clothing must be suitable for all scheduled classroom activities including physical education (PE), science labs, wood shop, and other activities where unique hazards exist.
  • Specialized courses may require specialized attire, such as sports uniforms or safety gear.

Non-Allowable Dress and Grooming:

  • Clothing may not depict, advertise, or advocate the use of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, or other controlled substances.
  • Clothing may not depict violence, obscenities, pornography, nudity, or sexual acts.
  • Clothing may not use or depict hate speech targeting groups based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious affiliation, or any other protected groups.
  • Clothing must not threaten the health or safety of any other student or staff member.

Generally, students who do not follow the dress code will be referred to the school office to correct the issue, which may include changing into PE clothes, wearing a t-shirt provided by the school, or being sent home to change.  Every effort will be made by school staff to avoid embarrassing or shaming the student.  All corrective actions will be reported to the parent/guardian.

ECE Facilities Update

On March 13, 2023, DJUSD introduced the proposal for Early Childhood Education (ECE) requisite facilities district-wide, due to the passage of AB 130. Design planning is now underway for additional ECE requisite facilities at Willett Elementary School.

Please join the DJUSD Bond Team on Monday, April 8, for two meeting opportunities to learn more about the construction of these new buildings and to share your feedback about this project at your neighborhood school. Families, staff, neighbors and friends are all invited.

Willett Family Science Night with Explorit!

Science Night is planned for Wednesday, April 17, 5:30-7:00 p.m. in the Willett MPR and without volunteers we can’t make it happen! We are in need of 4 more volunteers to help run stations (easy, fun, everything is provided for you). Read more info and sign up HERE. If you have questions about this event, or would like to contribute in other ways to science night, please email [email protected]. Thanks!

Coffee with the Principal: Moved to April 12

Please join us for our monthly Coffee with the Principal on Friday, April 12 at 8:30am in the MPR (moved from April 5). Hear about the DJUSD AIM (Alternative Instruction Model) program from our very own 4th grade teacher Mr. Miller. Coffee will be provided!

Bike Rodeo

The City of Davis Police are hosting a bike rodeo at our school as part of our school’s bicycle skills program. With the help of volunteers they will be conducting a Bike Rodeo on May 22nd. The bike rodeo is a simple and fun activity to teach your child important bicycle safety skills. The event consists of a number of stations that allow your child to learn and practice proper bicycling skills. In order for your child to participate, the following is required:

  • You must review, sign, and return the release form which will be sent home with students in the coming weeks.
  • Children must bring their own bike, wear a bicycle helmet and shoes that fasten, no flip-flops allowed.

Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity!

Willett Family Science Night is April 17, 5:30-7pm in the Willett MPR. We need 4 more volunteers to make this happen. More info and sign up HERE.
