Outdoor Education

Each year, our sixth grade students (and their teachers) participate in an Outdoor Education Camp called Sly Park Environmental School for a week.

Sly Park Environmental Education Center provides unforgettable outdoor science learning experiences. Located in the Eldorado National Forest the program features a climbing wall, astronomy, animal, arts and crafts. In addition they have a wonderful team building program that includes hiking, shelter construction, challenge activities and much more.

This week is one of the highlights of sixth grade and we have already begun to plan for that week.  Following is the information thus far:

  • Our dates for Sly Park Outdoor Education Camp are January 27 - 31, 2020.
  • Donations direct whether we are able to fund buses for the trip.  If there is no funding, we will drive up and back in cars.
  • This trip costs about $28,000.  If you are able, the donation for the week at camp is $300.00 per child.  Checks are made to Willett Elementary School.  You have the option of paying the $300 in one full payment, or you can pay in multiple installments, whichever works best for your family. Donations of any amount are appreciated.
If you would like to begin payments now, please bring your check to the Willett office with ‘Sly Park tuition’ written in the memo section. Thank you to the families who have already donated to this fantastic trip!
  • You can visit the Sly Park website at http://www.scoe.net/slypark/
  • You may contact them by calling (916) 228-2485.

We will need parent volunteers to attend the camp for the week.    All chaperones MUST be fingerprinted through DJUSD. Information about this will come from the classroom teacher next year, along with more information about the trip.  Chaperone decisions are made by teachers, pending the amount of volunteers we have.

Paperwork for this trip will be handed out at Back to School Night.  Please turn these forms in ASAP. If you need new forms, please contact your child's teacher.
